🥔 Explanation of dry matter and weight under water! 🌟
Each batch of potatoes is tested for density and dry matter content using a starch tester. On average, our potatoes have 21% dry matter, but our goal is 29-30% to ensure crispy, less greasy fries.
📉 So we adjust the water content to achieve this superior quality. Every fry you enjoy is the result of strict standards and constant innovation!

In our very first year, we were faced with the colossal challenge of breaking into an already saturated market.

Little anecdote: 🤫
In the early days of Ecofrost, Sabine was preparing lunch, melting butter in a frying pan, when an emergency at the factory forced her to intervene quickly with Pol Vervaeke. Absorbed in solving the problem, they completely forgot about the kitchen. When they returned, they discovered a charred frying pan and a smoky kitchen, but fortunately without a fire. This incident has become a famous anecdote at Ecofrost.

In 2003, the visionary union of the Vervaeke and Hoflack families gave birth to Ecofrost.
The Vervaeke family , with generations of expertise in potato growing 🥔, and the Hoflack family , seasoned specialists in vegetable freezing ❄️, have combined their know-how to create high-quality frozen products.

When he was at school, Pol Vervaeke, one of our founders, heard his teacher tell him: " You will never do anything good, you will just end up working in a chip shop. " Forty years later, Pol invited this same teacher, now retired, to visit "his fritkot" which has become a chip empire. 🍟

🍟🌟 Preparing for the new 2024 harvest 🌟🍟
Even though we have just started the second quarter of 2024, our thoughts are already turning to the next potato harvest 🥔
It is with enthusiasm that we share with you the preliminary details for this upcoming season:
- Early potatoes: called early potatoes, are generally harvested from June/July . Planting then logically begins from March ✅
- Storage potatoes: are harvested from September and can be stored throughout the rest of the year. Traditionally, their planting starts in April 😎
BUT
As you know, this year brings its share of challenges . Excessive rain since last year has caused two major problems 💧:
- some potatoes could not be harvested last year, which is currently mobilizing farmers to remove them from the fields. Obviously, these potatoes are no longer intended for human consumption 🚜
- waterlogged soils have delayed the planting of potato plants for the 2024 harvest. However, we remain hopeful for milder weather conditions to make up for this delay 🌞
As Ecofrost is not infeasible , we would like to assure you that we will do everything possible to minimize the impact of weather conditions on our forecasts and the quality of our products 💪
Together, we are ready to face the challenges this season has in store for us and ensure a successful harvest for 2024 🙌
